Current players to listen to and admire

We see a lot of discussion about tuba greats of the past, but who are the must listen to Tuba players out there playing currently and what are your favorite examples of their playing. It's great to remember great players of the past and learn from their example, but perhaps we could do more to promote and support players that are playing currently.

I (mostly) enjoy listening to really good players making really good orchestras, quintets, and jazz bands sound even better.
I have never really enjoyed playing tuba as a solo instrument. I prefer it in an ensemble... Sorry to derail the thread...

Owen Slade (plays on most of the UK recorded soundtracks)

Must be one of the best in the world!

Here's a guy who has been famous since I was wet behind the ears, and recorded beaucoup albums, and played his butt off year by year every way you could want.

Ben Thomson, Royal Opera House, on trial for the LSO. Great ensemble player. May well still be a LSO Live Stream of Mahler 2 recently.

+1 for Owen Slade, and Robin Haggart at the Liverpool Philharmonic. Robin was on the Lucerne Mahler 2 with Abbado.

Andy Duncan with the BBC Scottish, formerly Halle.

And of course, James Gourlay is as good as ever still.

If I may chip in with an euph player I really like, its Anthony Caillet, a frensh man. There is a wounderful recording of Cafe, Piazolla, with pianist Miki Fujii.

On the tuba side I have a great liking to danish Jens Bjørn Larsen playing Tango Jalosie, Jakob Gade.

Honestly a huge influence on my playing via listening is Warren Deck. His sound and clarity is incredible and I have never heard another tuba player sound anything like he did.

Andreas Martin Hofmeir - recordings of the Duda Concertos
Thomas Leleu - "In The Mood For Tuba" (LOL that name) it's good.
Perry Hoogendijk - Quicksilver

North America:

Yes, Jeff Anderson seems to be an underrated orchestral player. So, any recent SFS recordings.

Shoutout to Craig Knox on the Shosty 5 with the Grammy. Steven Campbell with the Minnesota Orchestra nomination on the Mahler. If you're into opera Dave Kirk wit dat Wozzeck...

This guy plays really good. And there are bunch of them in Hungary, playing tuba virtuosic. I like Sergio Carolino, he is for me, The Paganini on tuba. I also like Yasuhito Sugiyama from the Cleveland Orchestra. Carol Jantsch plays wonderful and very virtuosic. Gene Pokorny, Roger Bobo, Alan Baer... I love the way these guys play music .

Alessandro Fossi. I really admire his playing from a sound and musicality perspective (it makes me think of a great singer)

He has lots of recordings on youtube and a few cd's.
