Michel Godard: not only a great tubist, but the only person I've seen anywhere who can play a serpent beautifully and in tune

There are a lot of technically great 'tuba stars' today, but very few of them catch my ear.
My favorite players have all passed or retired by now. And like a few others have said; tuba sounds it's best in an
ensemble of some type.

In light of recent events and looking at the current playing field in the US it's practically impossible to ignore the amazing playing of Chris Olka and Derek Fenstermacher. I'm also a very big fan of Craig Knox's playing (both in orchestra and in quintet).
I recently got a copy of Les Neish's tuba albums "Salt of the Earth" and "Shine." I'm extremely impressed by his playing.

In MO we now have the awesomeness of Joe LeFevre (KC) and Derek Fenstermacher (STL). Having grown up a Chicago boy, it was going to be hard to replace the man that I thought did one of the best Jake impressions out there (Mike Sanders), but I can't wait to hear Derek! And Joe is already killing it on the west side!
