An old Melton shaping up

Post by Lectron »

Happy International Tuba Day everyone...AND Star Wars day
May 4th be with you :tuba:

Celebrated here with looking at my ol' Melton taking shape
Also adding a 5th, but still missing a few bows for that particular circuit

Nice. I bet that monster will sound fantastic in a large band or orchestra :!:
I'm sure it will turn out great when finished :!:

Sure will do.

Could take some time......or not :?:
Two bows in order  easier than trying to get that diameter 180 deg bend right.

Nothing custom parts, already being used 3 times on 3 going model tubas. It's more....
...Buffet-Crampon not always having the time for the li'll guy :|

But it will show up..finally, no doubt :tuba:

The Melton 200 would be loosely based on the old Bohland & Fuchs kaiser (later cerveny 691), maybe ever so slightly scaled up. Still with the valve circuit wrapping known from modern BBs from Melton.

What would compare in size would be the Fasolt.....a Fafner with a "2165" bell

Nice! Did you buy it from someone in the Netherlands? I have seen that old bell before.... I had a 200 as well, huge sound and played quite well for such a large horn. How is the intonation? The middle F was 25 cents flat on mine.... I always thought that playability could be improved with a smaller mouthpipe.... Fun instrument!

The one I tried years back also had that 3rd partial. As did the Fasolt. I don't look at 25c to be much though on any tuba, especially not this size :) It would equal 4 cm on a tuning slide, but alt fingerings usually solves it.
well of course. Less is a great bonus. Crossing my fingers.

As for the leadpipe....changing it is fairly easy giving it is a 2 pice thingy
Not the first thing I'll try, but done it on most tubas already, so I guess it might happen

And yes. This is the one Luc had.

I was told by the tech who did some work that this has a good F, you will find out.. :)

Adding a fith valve is a good addition. Gonna be awesome!

I would have kept mine werent for the fact that I play trombone primarily and nowadays play tuba once or twice a year. Now someone else is happy with it
