How many 183 owners are out there? Anyone care to add add your experiences? I own one which I still play fairly often--great jazz and big band horn as well as solo and quintet. It plays evenly but you can't push it too hard. Sweet sound. Arnold Jacobs seemed to like my 183 as well!

Yes... as LV already said.... that would be a 183. I have one. Very nimble little horn for ensemble and chamber work but pretty much useless in a concert band environment... that's my opinion, anyway

Very nice in the middle and high registers and fairly difficult to handle and stuffy at C below the staff and lower... regardless of how you use the 4th valve. Wanna buy one? Email me privately.

All of the above.
I've been playing a 183 for about 5 years. The low end takes care, but the mid and upper are nice. Only beef I have was already mentioned - not a good horn to be the only tuba in a concert band. However, it does the upper end of a divisi very well if you have a buddy on a big BBb or CC to cover the basement.
