...so after shipping/duty c $3000

I can probably about guess what it sounds like.
Wildcards, obviously, are intonation, valves, linkage, and structural integrity.

This is not a scale comparison, but it does show some of the basic differences in these instruments:

Weltklang 104 vs. 101

According to my experience (I earlier have shipped tubas through DHL Germany to USA) shipment will cost between Euro 150 and 200 (depending on size and weight of the package). Extra insurance for a value of Euro 5000 will be some 75 Euro (basic insurance with DHL only covers Euro 500). It normally takes 10 to 12 working days from start to delivery.
DHL ships to a major US airport, from there USPS (their contract partner) takes over. Shipment can be followed (not very detailed) through tracking number. USPS will contact the receiver before delivery (if receiver's phone number and/or email address is added to shipment data.

"Klein Koblenz" on it suggests it was possibly made for Luftwaffe.
Not surprising it's sold.
Other old kaiser tubas galore on the site: couple versions of 6/4 Cerveny/B&F, some familiar 4/4 weltklang and cerveny, and some "5/4" (ehhh...big 4/4?) things that are really cool-looking but not matching a wellknown model.

What is the “Klein Koblenz” relationship to the Luftwaffe?

that's just what you see when you google it, and hit "Translate to English".
has about as much credibility as anything you might happen to read on say this site.

Did someone on here buy this? When I saw it I had to sit there all day going "I don't need a kaiser, I don't need a kaiser..."

When is there going to be a 6/4 version of the YBB-621 ?

Should it be requested in the "What would you like?" thread?

Sorry to bump a dead post, but still curious whether a member bought this from Uwe and what their impressions are. Otherwise never mind me!

I'm sorry if I did not previously answer that question for you. I bought the kaiser BBb from Uwe. Here are a couple of previous threads about it:

Doc's Weltklang Kaiser

Kaiser Youtube Review

The video/sound samples are from when I first had the instrument. I'll have better sound samples soon.

My buying experience with Uwe was very easy and professional. After much research (thanks to Bob Tucci, Hartmut Geilert, and TheBerlinerTuba), it is safe to say this is not a B&S Weltklang, but instead is a 1930's Graslitz-made Kaiser BBb. In any case, it is a fun instrument to play.

The kaiser makes a very classic "kaiser" sound, and, despite it's size, it is not difficult to play. The intonation is surprisingly good and requires only a few adjustments. The high range is very easy, and the low range is very nice. After I quit trying to play it like a "big" tuba, it became easy to play. It's more about the kaiser sound than it is the size (thanks, Bob Tucci, for that reminder). I just try to make a clear, resonant sound, and let the tuba do the work.

Cosmetically, it is not perfect. Mechanically, it is in fine condition. The clockwork springs and classic linkages are not as fast and light as a new Miraphone, but that is to be expected. Even so, the valves are not difficult in any way.

I love the sound of this tuba. The sound is vibrant, and unique. The sound is very solid and holds together at all volumes. I have to work really hard to make it bark/edgy. Now that I am acclimated to it, and found the right mouthpiece, I should record some new samples.

If you have any questions about the tuba, I'll be happy to answer them.

Bill

Thank you so much! Truth be told I believe that was posted while I was out of town and generally staying off my phone. D'oh! Very cool tuba, interesting to hear it's likely not a B&S after all.
