These older 188s are excellent tubas. Nice work, even if I like the longer 5th valve myself.

How much? (J/k)

Great tuba, I hope you hold onto it for a good while!

I also picked back over the upper #5 slide alignment just a little bit more and dialed it in to 0.000"
The finish is fairly worn...This is about a 35-year-old instrument...
Still, 188 tubas are so pretty (shape/form) that it's impossible to make one appear to be "ugly", yes?
No tuba plays perfectly in tune, but what I really like about these (besides their really even response and "F tuba effort to get a contrabass tuba sound") is that there's always some valve combination that can be grabbed that (without yanking on any slides) is really close.

I never appreciated the complexity that the craftsmen at Miraphone went thru to make the shorter 5th valve tubing run and top slide match the look of the longer one. That’s quite a bit of additional bending and bracing to keep it clear of the back of the rotors. Nice job!

That is just too nice. If I ever locate my old 185--talk about seller's remorse--or one just like it, I know who to ask for the modification!
