Had something similar happen years ago. Bumper got chipped a little bit, throwing the 4th valve alignment off. Spent HOURS working on getting a better sound through the added resistance of all that tubing I added by pressing the 4th valve, I thought. It didn't occur to me that two days prior, my tone with the 4th valve was just fine and I couldn't have regressed like that in 48 hours. HAD to be me.
Finally noticed the chip, got it fixed, and what do you know? All of my hours of practice paid off, because my tone problems were fixed.
