K&M contrabassoon stand for Wessex cimbasso (?)

Postby barry grrr-ero » Tue Jul 03, 2018 12:24 am

I'm wondering if the Wessex rotary F cimbasso will fit in the K&M contrasbassoon stand. Any input appreciated.

I prefer the bassoon/bass clarinet stand, because it is secure YET loose, and thus the instrument is available for quick changes - such as using BOTH cimbasso and tuba in a pops concert medley and in playing the 4th trombone part in the first 2/3rd of Ride of the Valkuries and then switching to tuba for the last 1/3rd.

Thanks Joe. Does that differ from their contrabassoon stand? It looks very similar.

I wouldn't know. The website's "Best seller" tag blocks the important part.
I only recall that a seller of these was using a wide-faced stand that clips onto the body of the instrument, requiring a hard (two-handed) release.

Yes. If you can’t find one that’s padded for the entire length of the contact point then it’s easy enough to pad yourself.
Wirh other types of stands (contra bassoon, contra clarinet etc) the contact point with the cimbasso are too narrow for my liking. Then I really have to concentrate every time I put the cim in the stand.
I did an outdoor theater show last year and the company had a c-bassoon and a c-bass stand So I had a change to try out what Wormer for me.

My own "two floor pegs" design - with suction-cup tips - I'm thinking, greatly enhances sturdiness and greatly reduces the risk of falling.

Awesome, as always, Herr Blokemeister.

By the way, I played your m.p. today for a 4th of July gig - an 11 piece group playing 'turn of the century' stuff (5 strings, 2 woodwinds, 2 trumpets (cornet), t-bone and tuba). It sounded GREAT on the Neptune tuba. I use the Baer MMVI just when I'm the only tuba player in a 50 piece wind ensemble.

When I play with S.F.'s Deutscher Musikverien and I use your Blokepiece, I can perfectly match the other tubaist who uses a Miraphone 191 BBb. Good stuff.

I use a K&M cello stand for mine and it works great. Sturdy and secure for quick changes and also light enough when I bungee it to the case and folding dolly...
