Bill Watrous is gone...

Post by Dylan King »

Hi everyone,

I heard that Bill died last night. What a wonderful trombone player he was. Just thought I’d share.

Much love,

Dylan

I always thought this was great. Worked on my slides. Bill Watrous explains how to make his trombone slides super-slick...

Bill Watrous performed with The U.S. Coast Guard's jazz ensemble, The Cutters, in 1976. Here is a playlist with the entire "Watrous" concert. There are 4 tunes with just jazz ensemble, and Watrous joins us for the other 7. (If you just want to hear his tunes, look for his name somewhere in the title.)

One of my favorite jazz recordings was the BIll Watrous - Carl Fontana duet record put out many years ago. I remember seeing it in a music store. It was $17 (an astronomical price for an LP at the time) and all the text was in Japanese. I recognized two things. The names of the players and their picture. I snatched it up. I think I loaned it to a friend and never saw it again. Sadly it is no longer in print and was never put out on CD or mp3. Good stuff!
