I'm curious how much trombone solo/etude/study material the tuba players on this board play either by choice or teacher assignment and what the material is.

John Stevens played Grondahl Trombone Conerto the at the recent Army Tuba Conference.

I have played Morceau Symphonique for trombone and have worked on the Rimsky-Korsakov Tbone Concerto. As far as method books my old teacher had me use the Schlossberg as part of my routine. There are many great pieces out there in the trombone literature and I love to play them and/or learn them. It's also a good way to learn tenor clef.

My girlfriend, as I have previous mentioned on this board is a great musician who plays trombone. I listen to her playing these beautiful solos and etudes and I make copies of them to play on tuba. I'm not as good as her honestly and I can never do them justice, but she sets the standard so high for me.

As for the answer to the question, Arnold Jacobs was a big fan of playing music, non-instrument specific. If you hear something you like on any instrument, play it! It's just a little easier to only traspose the octave. I use the Arban's trombone book every once in a while to get some technique down. I am in the process of getting a copy of the 44(?) Recital Pieces for Trombone Book. My girlfriend has this and it is full of great rep.

I'm sure that your statement that your girlfriend is better than you earns you some serious plus points. The fact that she actually is better simply makes you seem more honest.

Just an observation.

I don't actually think she ever checks this board, but if she did and read that, I'd hope to get bonus points.

As for the her being better part, it is true. I'm reminded of this when we try to play duets or something similar. She reads them down effortlessly sometimes and I get frustrated not being able to. She is 2 years older than me and started her instrument in 6th grade, while I didn't start tuba until summer before 10th. That gives her about 6 years playing over me. She's in her final year of studying for her music ed degree, while I'm only about halfway done with school. She does remind me of all that when i get frustrated trying to play with her, and it cheers me up a little.

Also, to plug for her, she just recorded a solo CD. It's only really a demo, but she sounds great on the video tape she made while at the studio, I can't wait to hear the higher quality audio after it's edited. I think she's planning on selling them so I'll be sure to post a sample and maybe try to get some to you on this board.
