Not to worry, Joe. Lots of people talk to themselves. IMHO, I think it's mentally healthy to do so. Heck, some people (me) see apparitions. One recent evening I was calmly sitting in my recliner watching TV and glanced over to the sofa------there were my parents who died over 25 years ago. It was a loving, beautiful experience.

Signs of old age:

1. thinking that you vaguely recognize strangers.

2. talking to yourself in the shower (usually an argument)

3. yelling at the clouds while wrestling dents out of sousaphones

4. I forgot what #4 was supposed to be

Metal fatigue.

I can appreciate a good talking to oneself story. I thought I was the only one.

I was told that talking to yourself was perfectly normal and healthy....

....it's when you hear replies (from others) where you should begin to worry.

Oh, dear.

This has gotten much worse since last week.

You were only quoting yourself and laughing at your own jokes then!!

There is a bright side:
When your hearing starts to fade, so you have to speak up a bit to hear yourself, very few people will get in the way of your shopping cart, even in a crowded supermarket. Forgetting haircuts for a few weeks also helps.

I always tell people that I talk to myself because I know that at least someone is listening.

bloke,

When I was very young, my mom once asked me who I was taking to (knowing there was no one else in the house), I answered her in a voice that she describes as the "I can't believe he asked me that question" voice, saying loud and proud "MY SELF!" I still catch myself talking to myself out loud, in public spaces on a regular basis.

A public definition of insanity is posting the same thing over and over and expecting it to be funny this time. (laugh here dammit!)
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
