I was sitting in the front row of the balcony for her solo, and it gave me goosebumps... SMOOTH sound in all ranges, great projection, musicality and stage presence...
An all-around solid performance at a world class level...for a performer of ANY age.

Superior technique and musicality. I was lucky to hear Carol Jantsch play the Gregson Tuba Concerto, accompanied by the Marine Band, Sunday afternoon, at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
The announcer said that Carol is a college senior at the University of Michigan, studying with Fritz Kaenzig. It is easy to understand how her hard work and playing led to her being a semi finalist (finalist?) at symphony auditions.

Yes indeed, one of our bright young stars. I look forward to hearing her one day in person.
I have had the pleasure of hearing Fritz Kaenzig many times. As a member of the Grant Park Symphony Chorus tenor section for 18 years, I sat right behind him in the music shell, which was very crowded. FK of course is (or was) the GPSO's tubist. Although we mostly sang standing up, when we had to sing sitting, his tuba often blocked my view of the conductor. But I loved listening to him.

Yes, excellent performance. I heard the rehearsal and the concert yesterday. What I learned from watching and listening is that she is very efficient with the air. Fills up the lungs 100% every time very quickly. And then gets that air moving right away. It brought to light how lazy I've become with my breathing, because I can slide by with less effort due to the size differential(let's just say the last time I was Carol's size I was probably in middle school..). It's not rocket science, just personal discipline. Carol also played with excellent posture; feet flat and parallel, back straight, brought the mouthpiece to the face(not the other way around). Once again, personal discipline can do nothing but help your performance.
BTW, Miss Lipton was bringin' it strong yesterday as well. Of the 6 division winners this year, 4 were female. I think that shows great progress for our instruments. Congratulations to all that competed

You will need to get your orders in within a day or 2 or you will miss out. He presses then 5 days after the performances. He did the recording that night and charges $15 for a CD.
