I hope this hasn't been talked about before! I just found this great video with the Chestnut Brass Company describing all their instruments. Its a live show done at the Kennedy Center in March. Follow the link and scroll down to the Chestnet Brass Company link.....dialup beware....it's a 58 MIN RealPlayer file.

I just finished viewing--excellent presentation by one of the country's premier quintets! And, they are from Philadelphia! Definitely worth the wait, even on dial-up.

It is well worth it, if you have the band width. My wife and I just saw it, and loved it.

If you start it, don't be put off by the fact that it is a young audiences oriented program. The music that they use was either commissioned for them or very characteristic of the period of the instruments they are using. The performances are top notch, and they don't simply explain how their current instruments work, but the historic ones as well.

While I could still play, one of the highlights was perfrorming Symphony Fantastique with Jay on ophecleides.

They are a great group from an educational sense. If you ever have the chance to hear/see them live DO IT ! Not only are you almost sure to learn something but its quite enjoyable too. My best experience was when they played on all vintage instruments to suite the style of music they were playing. It was very interesting to hear some of the pieces we have all come acustomed too in their original sounding (or closer to it) form, instead of with modern instruments. They also have a CD (forget the name) but it is well worth it. Just a little more info FWIW
