Chris Mayer wrote:Hi Bort,

your email on the museum web is perfect and well adressed in the „Blasinstrumente und ihre Hersteller section“. Normally Mario Weller is responding. He is master craftsmen with the Hoyer French Horn production and refers to the production log. (team code, production date, product descriptions, could also be somethimg like „12 b tubas...“ and finally serial number).

Mario just posted -- my tuba was built in April, 2000. Good to know! Thanks again for the help, Chris!

...so what else needed to be done, other than knocking out some dents, smoothing out some creases, and cleaning out the dried up spit?
I wouldn't have been chomping at the bit to fix it, but would have…(for a bort). It's not that far to drive down here...

Of course we care!!!

The wait must be getting agonising! It only took 5 weeks to have my old King Monster completely rebuilt - including silver plating back in the 60's and that seemed like a long time.

Good things come to those who wait!

...or could possibly indicate that some repair "technician" f'ed up a valve, and (particularly with Dave Secrist's retirement) doesn't know what to do about it.

(' only trying to offer Brett an upbeat Thanksgiving message, here, and I know Brett really appreciates it.)

Dang, I'd have a hard time being that patient. Hope you get your horn back soon!

Joe, I was actually wondering if the tuba was shipped back to Venezuela. :P

But thanks, to all... it will be done soon, I do believe that. I haven't owned a working tuba since May, so I am more than ready to get this fixed and move on with life. Not how I wanted all of this to go down... but when do we ever get to choose that!

And.... it's back! Literally just picked it up from the shop.

Everything is fixed, looks nice, and the 5 notes I got to play were great. Looking forward to finally playing this tuba!

I probably won't have the after pics until Sunday or Monday. I don't have two boys, ages 3.5 and 1.5 years... so there was a lot of excitement and commotion last night around the tuba.

I'll have it at the St Paul TubaChristmas tomorrow afternoon, my first real chance to play it for an extended amount of time.

TubaChristmas is such a practical example of the use of the tuba. You were lucky to get your instrument back just in time to test it at such a typical venue.

Actually Joe, that was the plan all along -- busted. Buy a tuba in early summer, wait 6 months, and then use it for the first time at TubaChristmas. :)

Be sure to adorn it with plenty of tinsel...and maybe glue a small tree or plastic reindeer to the bell.
