In a past thread I have asked about the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. Although I got some great responses and information from this, I also know that there are other music colleges in the U.K. that might be comparable to the RNCM.

Any experiences with music colleges in the U.K.? Any advice for someone looking to attain his MMus?

Anyone have any experiences or stories about these colleges

Just some very broad remarks about being a student in some of these places...........

My Daughter is at University on the edge of London - she is having a ball (not doing Music) - but - London is very expensive for students. As a student you have access to very high quality music and music provision from all over the world. First class Football - Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs etc

Birmingham I know nothing except that I heard the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Chorus provide the choral stuff in Beethoven Symphony No 9 with Simon Rattle and the Berlin Phil at last year's Prom Concerts in the Albert Hall - the chorus were outstanding in an outstanding concert. Good Football - Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Brom.

Huddersfield is in the middle of hard core Brass Band country, great countryside and a World Class contemporary music festival. Not good Football, but you could get the train to Manchester.

Manchester is a great place to be a student - the beer and the curry is cheap. As a music student you may get better playing opportunities out of College than in London - the big problem (?) with London is that there are so many top class players around. First Class Football - Manchester United, Manchester City with Everton and Liverpool down the road if you fancy a change.

Dont know much about Cardiff except that the Opera School within the Welsh College has a very good reputation. Not really a Football city - its Rugby Union territory.

I know even less about Glasgow. The only First Class Football in Scotland - Celtic and Rangers.
