Hi folks,

I just got a new horn and it needs a couple minor repairs. Any recommendations for brass shops in eastern CT, Providence RI, or near Worcester MA? I'd be willing to drive into Boston too, but would rather stick local if anyone has any recommendations.

Thanks!

Blake

Have had very good experience with Osmun Music in Acton, MA, west of Boston. Have had both of my tubas (MacBrass 410 and BMB 844) serviced there, have been impressed with the high quality of service provided and the advice they have offered. Service appointments are very easy to schedule, they have always fit me in to the schedule when I needed something done quickly, their techs are experienced and knowledgable, and have been allowed to be present in the repair area when they have worked on my tubas, which is always a great learning experience. I live more than an hour away from the shop, through the always challenging Boston traffic, and have never regretted the trip.

Some of my colleagues (folks whose opinions I trust) have used Carl Chudy in the Mystic/Stonington area, and they’ve had nothing but good things to say.

Check out https://www.seshires.com/" target="_blank in Holliston, MA. They used to do some repair and it's really high-quality work.

Osmun Music does excellent quality work, especially Jim Becker and Jim Engele, but they are waaaaay overpriced and will fix things that you didn't ask for. There is no obvious hourly rate - just surprises on your bill at the end without a breakdown of charges. Just my experience.

I can vouch for Aaron Beck as well. He did amazing work for me when he was still located in Virginia. I'm pretty sure that he does work for Mike Roylance and other BSO players.

Good luck,
