NSW 2018 band contest on brassbanned.com

Post by GC »

Brassbanned.com is going to broadcast again this weekend. The New South Wales contest should, if the countdown timer is accurate, start sometime just before 7pm EDT on the east coast of the US on Friday, August 24, which will be the morning of Saturday, August 25 in Australia in Penrith (about 30 miles west of Sydney) at The Joan (The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Center).

They will be running a stream from each of the two halls within the center. They have commented that they will be allowed into the halls to set up their mikes and cameras only 90 minutes or so before the first performances, so things may be a little rocky at first. The sound quality last weekend was pretty spectacular for live miking, a few glitches nonwithstanding.

The difference in time between Australia and the US east coast is 14 hours, so what runs through the day there runs overnight here (here being the EDT zone in my case).

The broadcasts start today about 7pm EDT, east coast of the US, a bit under 2 hours from now. Hall 1 seems to be brass bands, hall 2 concert bands. Bands play today and tomorrow, sacred and test selections today, choice pieces tomorrow.

Brass bands (Hall 1) are showing grades B and A today, sacred and test piece in the morning, choice piece in the afternoon, awards today. My guess is that C and D grades will be tomorrow, but I haven't seen a contest schedule to be certain. At 8:15 pm EDT USA they're only on the second band, so there's a lot left to go. https://brassbanned.com/2018/08/23/watc ... ps-hall-1/

Concert bands (Hall 2) will finish all sections today. They're also on their second band at this time. https://brassbanned.com/2018/08/23/watc ... ip-hall-2/

Been out of town, so couldn't get notices up. Concert bands and brass bands in hall 1. Concert bands still running in hall 2 (I was wrong that they were finished yesterday).
