Quentin Sharpenstein, longtime Tuba and Bass fixture in Louisville, KY, passed on August 17th. He was 74.
He was a wonderful Dixieland Tubist and one of my earliest influences/mentors. He played on the Jamey Aebersold Dixieland Play-a-Long entitled "Down by the Riverside" and was constantly in demand as both Tubist and Bassist in just about any context you could name until only a couple of months ago. A generous and exceedingly witty man, he will be sorely missed. RIP old friend.
