Yes, it's still all there, and not going anywhere. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... osIII/info.

I have admin access and can help with account troubles, or I can try anyway. Yahoo is messed up, just as a general comment. Bear in mind that it sounds like you may have accounts (though I don't see any obvious sign of them), and then you may also have Yahoo accounts for other things, and it can get kind of hairy sorting that out.

In principle, this setup doesn't make a lot of sense today. At the time it was what Klaus had available to him, in the way of large amounts of free online storage, and it just happened to come with a "groups" package and restricted access. Today, large scale storage with uncontrolled access is pretty cheap, and that's how everything works. The way I'd do that, though, it would be on a web site I own, and then if I was shot by a jealous husband or something, there's this problem again. So I haven't spent much time thinking about.

I see a couple of adventure seeking members have signed up. The next thing is finding your way into the system. Which Klaus makes perfectly clear in the intro notice, but it isn't up to user friendliness standards people are used to. In the Files part, there's an "Index" link, which presents your choice of HTML, PDF or DOCX renditions. I download the HTML file, and that - viewed from my own hard disk - gives me the catalogue with links back to the Yahoo group. So for example I wondered if there was a picture of the Alexander baritone I had for a while, with 4 top piston valves and a forward facing bell, and sure enough - Alexander 4TP baritone, there it is.

Yes, it's organized. Of course, it's a vast amount of stuff, and I'm just assuming that this big alphabet sorted index actually does point to everything. The likely reality is that there have been a few bits and pieces lost in there. Just to convey an idea, the first alphabetic entry (after a page of somewhat random non-alphabetized stuff), is "A. Abbate & Figlio Napoli straight flicorno baritono 4RV", with a link to (likely) several pictures. Next is "Old style Abbott Professional Toronto trumpet 3P - could be Czech made", with a link, etc.

Yeah, well, the host entity is the key point. I briefly entertained the idea of just doing it, but then it would be tied to my transient existence. I guess Tubenet itself isn't necessarily an eternal sure thing - gosh, that's a chilling thought, isn't it? - but something like that would be a better direction. On the other hand, one could think of potential more directly Tubenet related projects that could be undertaken, and we know none of them will be, because as much improved as it has been lately, Tubenet is still kind of on life support as if prolonging the inevitable.

As for whether it would be doable, I'm not absolutely sure. Depending on technical stuff I haven't really looked into, it could be a piece of cake; if not, it could be a massive time-consuming project that would run out of fun long before completion. I'm guessing the former, but wouldn't bet my life on it.

I should add, if you're lucky and all goes well, even the "stupid" should find that they have access to it, it doesn't require any particular cerebral excellence. But it's a nuisance and we rarely trouble with it, and then we forget the things we needed to remember, etc. And it's hidden away from search engines.

Yeah. I corresponded with another user a few months back who experienced something like that. Yahoo authentication ...

Right. I think my own fairly piddling hosted web site allows unlimited storage. No one cares about disk space any more, I guess.

If you get a bunch of stuff about arrangements, you're in a different place altogether. There might be a list of groups at the upper left, you want PublicPhotos, not BB.
Here's a URL for the index files: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... les/Index/

Do you need a Yahoo account to view the photos?

Yes.
