Shaky tone, but clean

I'm playing a Cerveny BBb helicon. It's in pretty darned good shape, but when I play, I feel that the tone is shaky. I've been playing semi-professionaly for around 10 years, on tuba 25. I'm watching the tuner, it stays in tune, for the most part, but I feel the air not wanting to go smoothly through the horn.

Check the alignment? I know it's not a hard thing on rotary valved instruments.

Could there be something else that makes it feel like the air is backing up? I feel like it blows pretty darned freely, but the tone isn't as clear, consistent, buttery as I'd like.

I'm using a Denis Wick 1L.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm working on air control, and it's not horribly off, so that may or may not be the problem. Sorry if I'm beating a dead donkey.
