I actually started life on the euphonium and got voluntold to switch to tuba when I got to high school. Ended up loving it so can't complain there. I also play electric and upright bass, working up two musicals right now. I can play a little guitar around the house. Occasionally I attempt to honk on my wife's sax when she isn't listening.

Absolute truth!

Still keep on it, buddy! The ophicleide is an awesome instrument, and I am very happy to read that more are learning it.

As far as what I dabble in:

Ophicleide is one, but not right now. It's not with me.
Cornet, baritone, clarinet, C melody sax (also not with me), any middle horn I can find. I once owned two Eb alto trumpets. I think I've sold both. I don't know...I'm sure I can find another one. They're all over the place. I've got a nice alto Eb flugelhorn from Hirsbrunner sitting in the garage. I should have brought that with me to Macedonia instead of the cornet, but hey, luggage...

At one time, I was practicing zurna/zurla. If you don't know what that is, check it out. It is not for everyone, as it has two dynamics:

On and Off

When it's on, it's ON.

ok..."dabble"...NEVER play for remuneration...

a BALLAD HORN

Mine is a never-lacquered no-damage/no-wear Bohemian-made one.

These are three-piston instruments that are easily mistaken for OLD STYLE (curved bell) Eb mellophones, but are built in (8-foot) C.

Occasionally, I pull mine out ($25 invested in acquisition) and play Mozart horn concerti at pitch.
