Bach 24W

While walking through my basement I came across the first mouthpiece that I ever owned. It was a Bach 18 (or a generic). It was old and battered, but I buzzed on it and it felt great. I wonder why I changed mouthpieces so many times since then.

In any event, the mouthpiece I purchased to replace the 18 was a Bach 24W....not a 24AW, but a 24W. To my recollection, it was small like the 24AW, but the rim was EXTREMELY well rounded. I have yet to see another mouthipece quite like it. I seem to remember the Yamaha Bobo Symphonic having a very rounded rim. It was a lot like that. I have yet to come across another 24W since I sold it when I was in high school.

Is anyone else familiar with the 24W??

Only by reputation and specs (never played on one) -- it's the "standard cup depth" counterpart to the "deep cup" 24AW (same 31.25 mm inner diameter, same rim, same 8.84 mm throat diameter and #810 backbore). They're available (I just checked WWBW and MouthpieceExpress, and they both list both versions).

Hope this helps! :)

I played on a 24W for a couple of days, I wanted to try a 24AW on my 981 Eb but my teacher only had a 24W. It worked well but lacked the depth of sound that 24AW has. I think it should work well on F tuba.

I exchanged my 24AW for a 24W recently, it turned the Yamaha I was struggling with into a musical instrument.
Much richer high notes and intonation, at the expense of volume though.
