Philosophy on dent repair

So, I was in a hurry packing up after rehearsal and tipped my horn and gave it a quarter sized dent in the upper bow and a small ding on the bell. I'm annoyed with myself for not being careful, but such is life.

Do you typically get dents repaired right away, or is there a critical mass level? I'm thinking of waiting until my next break in music cycles to get these righted.

One must become the dent to understand the dent; only then will the course of action become clear.

In all seriousness, though, if the denting is purely cosmetic, I'd only have it repaired if a trusted repairman has an open schedule during musical down time, or ask if an appointment can be made, so it doesn't sit in line at the shop.
If it is purely cosmetic though, and you don't see yourself selling anytime soon, I don't see any reason to have it worked on, especially the hard to reach top bow.

It’s like my car.

I wait for a bigger dent to come along, say a dent larger than my deductible, then get it fixed!!

First dent? The good news is that now, for as long as you can put off the repair, next dent won't be the first dent.

Not the first dent, just first dent on this horn  . It is playing fine, so I think I'll wait until a down time (likely post holiday season).

Maybe I should go to the dentist to get advice?

I usually just spew expletives when it happens and then never get it repaired. Fortunately I have only put relatively small dents on bows and bells, and not something very important.

I actually have a Ph.D. in Philosophy and so can answer with some authority -- unlike all the other fake philosophers who are steering you wrong in this thread. The answer, of course, lies within yourself:

How much money do you have?

How much will it cost to repair the dents?

Do you want to spend that much money on fixing the dents?

There you go. My invoice is in the mail.

That's a tempting offer, as I've also been considering a blokepiece...

If I showed up at your doorstep and needed a 15 minute favor, wouldn't you do it for me?

Joe,

Some of the Baltimore guys would do that (and more) for you, no problem.
Randy Harrison (HBRandy), Frank Wilsey (Heavy_Metal) and I think VERY highly of you (sorry, I hate to break the news to you).

have a good evening,
