Alan Page was a local college and NFL player, and after that had a law career to eventually become a judge on the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Surprised to see him attending the marathon, his wife passed away less than a week ago. :(

He is a legend in his own state. I grew up there in his prime.

He was a member of the famed "Purple People Eaters" of the early 70's and did end up as the chief judge on the MN Supreme Court. After he retired from the Vikings he really significantly lowered his weight from his playing days and was regularly running marathons all around the country. I was running one in Chicago when I spotted him and struck up a conversation out on the road. I had no idea he also played the tuba. Certainly one of the more distinguished cerebral pro athletes you will ever find and unlike many stars contributed to society long after his playing days were over.

Alan Page will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom next week. Maybe the first tuba playing recipient?!
