Not sure as to the seriousness of this thread, but I've gotten into the habit of keeping a few drops of Hetmans 14 on the threads.

What seems to work best for me when any of the parts stick is to wrap one of the sticking parts with a wide rubber band. That usually gives me the extra grip I need to unscrew them by hand.

I know a girl, but you’d need a bigger mallet for hers.
For those, I recommend the ice pick and cigarette lighter trick!! :tuba:

Back on topic...I use the rubber strap wrenches to free stuck mouthpieces. I only needed it once with my Sellmansberger solo and a bunch of times with my Boston Brass G&W with all those screw on weights. They take a little bit of playing with to get used to, but once you figure it out, I haven't found an easier way to free them (I don't have a raw hide mallet).

I have had issues with my Parker mouthpieces getting stuck. (same manufacturer, I believe) I had to wait until the Army tuba conference for him to free the shank. He used a mallet as well. I haven't had it get completely stuck since, but I've made a habit of always loosening the parts when I'm done playing. Thank for posting this.

I got my shank stuck. Bought a rubber mallet....been trying for hours to unstick with your method with no success. Any other recommendations? Is there an issue with using a rubber mallet instead of wood? It's really starting to piss me off considering I spent $250 on this mouthpiece.

Thanks,
Dan B.

No you did...I was just lazy and thought I could get by with rubber. Thank you for your help. I will look for a rawhide.

Thanks,
