I posted a previous thread asking for info on 'Electric Oompah'. Thanks for the feedback (scuze the pun ).

I have another question about amping a tuba. Is anyone using an effects modeling processor to obtain 'electric' sounds on a tuba?

I'm glad you asked this question because I was thinking about asking it when I saw your electric oompah post. I have a BOSS GT 6B processor that I use on my 2341 in a small jazz/blues group. It is made for bass guitar but I use it for my regular electric guitar....and since it is for bass guitar it really picks up my tuba sounds fully. I would say that this type of setup would be overkill for just some tuba tootin' but on the other hand you can be pretty creative with the couple hundred sounds you can make ; (from distortion and wah wah to reverb and delay and many more). I think Oystein Baadsvik has some electric tuba sounds on his website but you can hear some great trombone wah wah in "Bonerama" with Mark Mullins. My set up consists of a Boss ME-50 effects pedal;



A Boss RC-20 Loop Station,



And a Korg Kaoss Pad (addicting just to mess with),



I run everything into a little guitar practice amp (I don't play very large venues). It works well, with a lot of creative possibilities.

I'm thinking about something like this:



About $100 for all effects a person would ever want.

I guess my question is- isnt it better to run any of those through a 15" cabinet- to get the bass sound? Does the guitar amp tin it out?

Those DigiTechs work well, but the sounds are really menu based. I like the Boss because it is knob driven. It gives me a lot more creative flexability.

Dan, I got a Korg effects pedal for my Gibson hollowbody guitar with 60 pre-programed sounds and 60 more sounds I can write,myself. I was working as a guitar/vocal song guy and desparate to find a way to keep songs from sounding alike. The Korg helps but I had to go thrugh the whole songlist and assign a numbered sound for each tune and write that number on my songlist. Havent yet had the guts to blow tuba thrugh it when I play with the Creekers but I eventually would like a novelty effect in just a few tunes.
Bloke is right about goofy effects. An overbearing or irritating sound effect can negate any benefits one might hope to derive from using the darn thing.
Monty, in my experience we have to use 15's or larger if we want to play bass in a large venue with the P.A. cranked and not blow speakers.
