Custom Flop
Recently a student of mine ordered a PT-65 from Custom. The mouthpiece sent was totally different that the good one I use and was returned.

That's too bad. They are also down to one employee and no longer attend conferences or donate to ITEA.E. Green wrote:Recently a student of mine ordered a PT-65 from Custom. The mouthpiece sent was totally different that the good one I use and was returned.

Whichit Band really shouldn't be on the list.
They no longer have anyone on staff that has a clue about tuba or fixing them and they don't maintain a tuba inventory.

The PT-31 I bought a few weeks ago is not nearly as well made as the PT-62 I have from around 2010. Notably, the backbore is crudely machined. I should have returned it, too.E. I would suggest that Buddy Roger's Music in Cincinatti, OH should be added to the list. The store has a real tuba-guy, Chris Hite, on staff, a school-trained repair guy that also is a pro tuba player. The company has dedicated itself over the past three years to becoming a destination for brass players, and they are not only stocking and repairing tubas, they are working closely with Robert Tucci and carrying his line of post-Custom-Music, post-Perantucci Robert Tucci mouthpieces. I do not think that there is anyone in the world with a greater passion for making great tuba mouthpieces than does Mr. Tucci, and they are continuing to develop even-better mouthpieces. I'm not sure where the current Perantucci production has been farmed out to, but it has nothing to do with Mr. Tucci and his standards of quality - and I'll leave it at that.

Thanks for the replies.
This is a help for myself and a bunch of people, I would guess. When I get in a position to buy a new horn, I'd love to try before I buy, rather than buy something online and hope it's what I'll like.
