Dvorak Tuba Parts

Hey Guys,

It occurs to me that the tuba parts by Dvorak, of which I am aware, are not really kick-a$$ stuff.

The New World is beautiful, but not plentiful!

It seems like the 6th & 8th Symphonies are a lot of punctuations, but not too much else.

Please educate me to change my attitude! Are there great parts that I have not encountered yet?

A good reason why there's no Dvorak on audition lists?

I like playing Dvorak stuff... I find it very pleasing and easy to listen to, and I get to chill in the back row and not do too much.

I also like the cello concerto. Nothing spectacular tuba-wise, but pleasant nonetheless.

Yes, I forgot the Cello Concerto! It is a good tuba part.

Just did 6 a couple months ago, and it was one of those times that I felt like a 4th trombone/5th horn/ utility cello-bass. Jumped around the orchestra a little bit.

Andreas Martin Hofmeir keeps telling his audiences that Dvorak wrote the tuba part for New World specifically to keep the tuba player from meeting Mrs. Dvorak during performances. Don't know if there is any truth to this, though.

Proof that tubas are "chick magnets".
