VMI 3302 Valve guides

Post by LibraryMark »

Folks - I just brought home a VMI 3302. I discovered that, along with a thorough cleaning, it is in dire need of valve guides, and I am not sure who would have them. I tried Custom Music near Detroit and they said they no longer do that sort of thing. They are plastic and screw into the side of the valve.

You need this valve guide:

This is a reputable company to buy from.

If that is a 3mm guide you can purchase it from DEG or a music professional who deals with Allied Supply.

I got the guides today - they needed a bit of shaving down on their faces, I did it with my wife's diamond nail file. I wish VMI had made the guide slot deeper. By the time you get them to work well (even dragging ever so slightly), there is very little thickness left.

Here's the old valve guide:

And the new valve guide:

"B & S" and Meinl-Weston/Melton Valve Guides

Please note that the piston valve guides used in the instruments listed are one and the same. They are machined from hard synthetic material and are therefore quite durable. We have these in stock: otherwise Chris Hite at Buddy Rogers Music can supply them.
