Greetings,
I'm getting a root canal today and was curious if anyone ever had any adverse effects on their tuba playing afterwards? Anything to watch out for? Thanks!

I have found that once the novocaine wears off you are good to go. You can sometimes have residual jaw soreness depending on how long the procedure takes. I have also found some lingering "phantom pain" from the area of the affected tooth, even though the pulp has been removed. I have had rehearsals on the same day as dental procedures and haven't run into any issues.

Had two. No problems with either one.

Whew! Good to know. I'm still a bit numb, but glad to hear things should be ok. Thanks!

Watched a Netflix special today on root canals, cavitations, implants. Title is "Root Cause" Highly recommend it.

I had 3-4 a while back (at different times). The procedure was done in the afternoon and in each instance, I was able to play rehearsals the same evening. I would think this is the norm, unless there is some kind of unfortunate complication.

Not root canal, but extractions from cracked roots from auto accident injuries: give it a couple of weeks.

When I had a dead tooth I had it yanked. I don't want dead stuff "living" in my mouth. Near front too. I bet that Netflix special has some things to say about it.

I had a root canal done through a gold crown a couple of decades ago. I played a rehearsal a few hours after it was finished. No pain, just relief.
