New tuba day! Anyone else get their new Wessex Viverna?
I'm wrapping up at the office where my NEW Wessex Viverna arrived a few hours ago. I'm dying to get home and put some wind through it!
Anyone else, who had one pre-ordered, get theirs today?
This is an upgrade from the previous generation that I had and sold a couple of weeks ago, and I can already tell you from my visual inspection that this is a huge step-forward for Wessex and its customers.
I have so many good things to say assuming she plays as good as she looks and feels! Stay tuned for pics and a detailed review...

I’m looking forward to hearing about it. I wanted to see it at the Army conference but it missed the plane!!

Is the Dragon just the 4V version of the Viverna, or is it a completely different set up?

Not a Wessex, not BBb, but I did just get a new Miraphone 1293 a few days ago!

The Dragon is the 4-valve version of the Viverna. The big difference is the Viverna is now hand crafted in the new high-grade workshop - while the Dragon (at least for now) is still made on the regular production line and is therefore a lower price option.Mark Finley wrote:same thing. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I need to postpone my review.
In meantime, I'd love to know if anyone else got theirs... Wessex sold out of the February batch, so someone else here has to have one!

That made me worry about the weight.Mark Finley wrote:same thing. Both were adapted from the Luzern body, according to Jonathanbigboymusic wrote:Is the Dragon just the 4V version of the Viverna, or is it a completely different set up?

Wessex is one of the few manufacturers who tells you the weight of their instruments up front. Viverna 27-3/4 pounds, Dragon 26. I'm wondering if the Viverna is going to be assembled from sheet brass since it's moved to their upper line, reducing the weight. It's currently basically the same weight as a Conn 20J.

No the Viverna won’t be made from sheet brass. That is a different manufacturing method and requires a different sort of mandrels.GC wrote:Wessex is one of the few manufacturers who tells you the weight of their instruments up front.
