Low Ceiling

I've had to give up my normal practice room in my house for other uses. :(

The next logical place for me to play is on this sort of platform in a home office that was made out of a utility room/crawl space at some point. The main issue with it is that the ceiling is just five feet from the floor.

While I can sit in a chair and play there, this is clearly not optimal for sound--horrible, really. I was just wondering if there was anything to be done, some kind of acoustic treatment to the ceiling or something, to salvage this.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I sometimes have to practice in a low-ceiling room. It is a long room, so turning the bell more horizontally helps with the sound and response, even though it is not a comfortable way to practice. The only other thing I can think of would be a practice mute like one of these:

Not an outlandish suggestion, Bloke, but the problem, technically, is not with a low ceiling, but with a high floor. I'm pretty sure it was built up that way to avoid a giant boulder breaching underneath.

Get a tuba with a recording bell and have your sound project forward instead of up.
