Well... a great day for tuba biz! I got the Musician's Union magazine AFM and low and behold - Jim Self with tuba on the front & back cover. He has the cover story of the March edition. Title - Taking Low Brass To High Art. Very nice article on Jim - tuba life and instruments. Cool pictures as well... including his custom made Cimbasso and his own invention the Fluba (for jazz performance). Looks like a giant flugelhorn.

Then, later in the magazine, audition announcements for tuba Milwaukee Symphony, and tuba Utah Symphony. (I'm sure there are at least 5-6 folks out there ready for a real job!)

The back cover is a full picture of Jim featured on a Yamaha ad.

Now I haven't seen a spread like this since Roger Bobo had his feature story in the Instrumentalist!! Jaco on the cover of Down Beat was a biggie for me as well but he... don't play da iron bass!

ahh! The Tuba IS BACK!
