Have your friend scan his parts and send them to you?
Photo from a phone perhaps. Did it once on a gig playing out of lyres and we had an extra tuba player turn up and were short a part. Admittedly it was short, easy music that I was at least familiar with. But you are only looking for a sneak peek.
