recording bell tuba - stand?

Post by kathott »

Hi. What is the best, most dependable stand for an “at rest” recording bell tuba? - for parking the instrument when not in use. Okay if it’s built like a tank, even better.....

I also have one for my recording bell 186. Works great at home.

On gigs, when switching between bass sax and bell-front tuba, I use a K & M 14940 stand (14945 for the 6/4 bell-front Holton) and it works great for me.

What are the differences between the two K&M models? I am looking for a stand balanced enough to hold a Besson (compensating) Recording Bell BBb - a real tank. SEE: https://simonettitubacollection.com/ins ... -4-piston/" target="_blank" target="_blank

The 14940 is for medium sized horns (like your Besson, or my York), while the 14945 is for what they call "Kaiser" tubas (large 5/4 or 6/4 tubas).

The 14945 has longer legs, but the rests on the arms are also larger, to accommodate the larger tubing of bigger horns (and it's also about $100 more in price).

My York 716 is very similar in size and weight to your Besson, and it has never fallen over, at home or on the bandstand.

One more word of advice - under no circumstances should you buy the Chinese copy of this stand - I bought one, and it is junk....in this case, the quality between them is noticeable.
