HS Tuba Quartet

Post by harrell »

I have three high school students I teach privately and I'm looking for some quartet music to play with them, me being the 4th player, of course. I need some suggestions on some quartet stuff that high schoolers can play. I have never really done much quartet playing and don't really know where to start looking for stuff.

Thanks,
Jason Harrell

Two good sources for Tuba Quartet music are:

Solid Brass Music http://www.sldbrass.com/

and

Wind Music Plus http://windmusicplus.safeshopper.com/index.htm?344

I like these two sites because they give difficulty ratings and Wind Music Plus even lets you take a look at a page from the score.

Portland Sheet Music Service, Robert King and the Tuba/Euphonium Press also have a large selection of tuba quartet music.

Also a little advice: pass out copies of the music to your students and keep the orginals in a safe place.

Also, look at thr Robert King catalogue. I did a bit of tuba quartet in High school, so I know there is definitely appropriate music out there.

Will you end up with a standard tuba quartet:

2 euphs, basstuba, and contrabasstuba?

Or will it be a another distribution of instruments?

Jason,

I would also add BVD Press to the list offered by others.. http://www.bvdpress.com/ They help sponsor TubeNET with ads and have a very large tuba quartet music offering. I have bought some things through them and been well pleased.

Also, I am not sure how Sean works the advertising but try clicking the BVD ad on here when you see it in case he gets compensated for click throughs. That way TubeNet gets support and you can see a lot of Tuba music to check out too.
