IMHO, the old Yorks' resonant sound is due to a combination of design and metal.
Second hand information, Pop Johnson (the designer) would walk through the new brass shipped to the factory, hang the brass sheets and hit them with a rubber hammer to hear the resonance. The best brass went to tuba bells. That's the story.

I like to pop into Catonsville Gourmet when I visit for fried oyster sammich if the month has an R it it. A place called State Fare opened nearby I may try that next. I also take a look around Bills Music and Tracks on Wax records. There went my whole day!!
