Guessing game -- Answer: My new tuba is...
I traded my PT7 for another tuba. On Monday, I will pick it up, and I am very excited for it.
Guessing game -- what is it??
Clues:
Key of CC
5 rotary valves
Not a Miraphone 188
Not Chinese (but you already knew that!)
Just curious what people might think, or if anyone even cares!
If you already know the answer, please don't say it!

Bort needs to make a new post with a poll. Winners can split up a mouthpiece.

Poll seemed too restrictive. Very interesting to see what people think, so I didn't want to limit options. I'll post the answer by Monday.
Keep the guesses coming. And sorry Jose... maybe next time, if there is a next time (and I hope there isn't).

I know what you have (I will not say) and I think that it may be your tuba for life.

If it's not an Alex 163, I predict you will back in the market in a year's time. If it is an Alex, you may be done shopping for a while (until you want to get an F as a second horn).

Based on his ten-for-ten record of having laymen ship tubas to him (arriving with creased bells), I'm expecting "something formerly good with a creased bell".

Re: Guessing game -- what is my next tuba?
Sorry to disappoint, but this tuba was received in perfect condition, and was acquired from an excellent tuba repairman who knows how to pack and ship a tuba the right way.
And the tuba is... a rotary B&S PT6.
It's an early handmade version, s/n dates it to 1993. A few modifications made to it, and it is in excellent overall condition. I've only played it for an hour or so, but have nothing negative to say about it, it's a wonderful tuba. Keeps all the positive aspects of the PT7, and addresses the few things that forced me to sell it.
Intonation, sound, size, ergonomics, etc. are all great... truly hoping and planning for this one to stay here for a long time.
