Interesting "orchestra"

Post by jperry1466 »

Got this photo from a distant cousin, whose great-uncle was leader of this group. The pic was taken in 1929 for a dance in Craig, CO. Members were Keith Boltz, accordion; Ray Curtis, Sousaphone; and Temple Kirkpatrick, sax/banjo/leader. They were from Hobart, OK. The newspaper ad says "Ray Curtis will start his big horn at 9:30 sharp. Tickets are one buck." I would give a buck to go back and hear this interesting group. Can anyone tell what the Sousaphone was?
