Hello,
A friend is creating a youth program that may involve using orchestral literature arranged to tell a story, in this case, with animals portrayed by the tuba. Some examples: Petrouchka bear, Siegfried Dragon, Bydlo ox (I know, it's the cart or the guy on it, whatever...), J. Williams Jaws, etc.
Please let me know if y'all can think of other examples, even repeats of the same animal by a different composer, or near missed like the elephant for string bass by Saint Säens.

Tony,
Three come to mind.
Elgar Enigma Variations/Mvt. 11 is about "Dan the Bulldog" running down a river bank to fetch a stick out of the water.
In Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream Overture the motive 3 after letter C (Kalmus), the A-E slurred notes are a donkey. (It's Brief).
The original story behind Sensemaya is about killing a snake (maybe too graphic for younger kids).

Re: Animals portrayed by tuba
you mentioned the Elephant, but the Swan and the Tortoise also work on the tuba, and Bernsteins "Mippy 3" was a dog as I remember

Isn't the Effie Suite by Alec Wilder also about an elephant?

Hamton J. Pig in Tiny Toons Adventures. From the Wiki, "Hamton J. Pig (voiced by Don Messick in the TV series, Billy West in video games) is a young, pink male pig with blue overalls. Based on Porky Pig, Hamton's role in the series is as a straight man, often against Plucky's antics. The only difference is that Hamton never stutters much like his mentor and uncle, Porky. Hamton is also shown as an overeater obsessed with cleanliness. Since Don Messick's death in 1997, Billy West took over the role of Hamton in a few video games, including 1998's Tiny Toon Adventures: Toonenstein.

Re: Animals portrayed by tuba
About forty years ago in England we used to play a brass-band piece called "The Happy Hippo"
"The Frogs of Aristophenes" by Granville Bantok may also be relevant
(Brass Band third section test piece??)

Re: Animals portrayed by tuba
Levi12345 you are correct. Alec Wilder wrote the Effie Suite about Effie The Elephant.
