4 valve miraphone f tuba

Post by bcollins »

I heard a retired band director say a local school had an old 4 valve f tuba given to them some years ago. He thinks he remembers it being a Miraphone. Did Miraphone ever make 4 valves f tubas years past?

Hummmm, could possibly be a 184 BBb instead - they are only about the size of an F.

Yes, Miraphone did make 4 valve F tubas in the past. I have seen and played two of them. Also, you can special order one if you wish.

Did they play well enough? I am playing a clarinet/tuba feature that is high and fairly technical. No low range to speak off. I no longer have an f tuba and will be borrowing whatever this school has. Just wondering.
