Old miraphone in Eb or F?

Post by bcollins »

Gifted an old miraphone with 5 rotors. Thought it was an f, but I am getting everything mostly in tune using Eb fingerings. Did miraphone make a 5 valve Eb in decades past?

Yes. It was numbered 183. It came 4 and 5 valves, upright or recording bell.

How does it play? A friend loaned me his 4- valve 183 and it was... interesting to try and play in tune.

It seems to play ok in tune. The 5th valve is a life saver. Don’t think low Bb and some other notes would be very playable without it.
