My group has played the Jack Gale (or parts of it) many times. I still can't get the trumpets to play the first movement. They say it's too hard. Bunch of sissies. It does take a good bit of rehearsal for everyone to feel the transitions and tempo changes together on several of the tunes. I like it because you can pick 3 or 4 tunes out of the 8 and not have to play the whole thing.

I can sympathize with the trumpets’ fear of the opening of the Gale. There are some fun and challenging tuba bits in it too.
