Rent or borrow a tuba in Albuquerque?

I'm normally in Boston, but I'm going to be working on research in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so I just traveled cross-country. I brought my mouthpiece, but unfortunately I had to choose between bringing my 3/4 tuba or having living accommodations in my apartment, so I don't have a horn.

I'd really like to be able to practice so I don't lose all my chops, and there's additionally an ad for a small funk brass band that's forming here, and I've always wanted to join something like that. However, I can't find any options for tuba rentals at the local music stores, and this is probably Banda country, so given that that's usually accompanied by rampant tuba theft, I doubt there would be many people who would be willing to loan me their horn. And there's the UNM band, but they're unavailable during the summer (I've tried in the past) and probably won't be too much more open to borrowing tubas during the fall.

Does anyone have any advice for what I could do?
