Pokorny Seminar 2019
Hello Troops,
As you are quite aware by now, the 2019 Edition of the Pokorny Seminar did not and is not occurring this year.
The major issue was not having my friend, musician, colleague and amazing organizer, Dr. Andrew Glendening available as he has made some career choices moving him away from the University of Redlands. In fact, I am proud to say that he is now Director of the School of Music at Northern Illinois University at DeKalb, Illinois. https://www.niutoday.info/2019/05/13/an ... -of-music/" target="_blank" target="_blank. Andrew has earned my unequivocal endorsement in any future possibilities of the Pokorny Seminar. While I appreciate several of the “bids” that came in to have the Seminar move to other schools as it became obvious in the spring that there were not announcements about a 2019 Seminar, I want to make sure any moves are congruent with Andrew’s thoughts as well. The high success of the Seminar has been due to has on-hands involvement.
Having stated that, I thank all of those who in the previous years have participated (some for multiple years) in the Pokorny Seminar at the University of Redlands. The many notes received are a testament to what good the Seminar has played in many careers. It was an enlightening give and take for everybody. The wonderful colleagues who participated as faculty members are some of the finest performers I have had the privilege of working with. That is only exceeded by their fine musicianship, which then is only exceeded by their wonderful humanity.
Should plans occur for the Seminar in 2020, we will get the word out as soon as we know.
Best wishes for the balance of the summer.
Cheers, Gene Pokorny
