I second this. In past Mr. Claus letted me inn to the site but I was never been able to watch any picture (dunno why) but never asked him... But certenly there is a lot of gold inside.

Here's last summer's iteration of that question:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88903.
Short version: likely could, but sounds like a certain amount of work. It would make a great deal of difference if the destination looked somewhat reliably long-lived. As bad as the current site may be, it did outlive its creator.

Yahoo is notifying group owners that their "groups" site is going away in December. Klaus' content may be lost if we can't find a way to download it to another location.
The group owner (admin?) can request a download of their content, which looks like a much simpler process than trying to download each file/picture individually.
I've been waiting for an email from yahoo with a download link for my group's content for about 30 minutes now. So, I can't really go into detail on the process yet.

Bloke, I'd be happy to work on transferring Klaus' files, but I'm not the owner of those groups.
I have my own, very defunct, yahoo group. I started the process to download my own files, so I might be able to answer questions about the process. I'm still waiting for yahoo to notify me that my files are ready.

From what I've heard it can take 30 DAYS for yahoo to respond to a download request....and I sincerely hope that was incorrect.

Hello, fans.
I have been working on it. I have the data, and am transferring it to a site where it will be simply images online, not like the current Yahoo thing. (Klaus put up with this miserable ____ because it was what he could get, back in the day. He was fine with the concept of wide open availability.)
The photos are nearly 14 Gb. They apparently don't qualify for Yahoo's download request, I tried that and got something to the effect of "no matching data." I have been downloading it with a Python application that uses some Yahoo API, know nothing about it, but with some minor modifications, it works - pretty confident I have the content. But it can take days to upload that much data over my connection (that's why they call it "asynchronous"! Pardon me, I just came home and am a little loaded.)
In short, folks, there's no cause for alarm. No one's really able to make any use of this data anyway, because everyone has forgotten where it is or forgotten their IDs and passwords. In its new home, there won't be any IDs or anything - wide open, very basic web presentation, ready for review well before the Yahoo date of demise. But it's good that someone's paying attention - I just happened to hear about this a week or two ago, and I did get an email from Yahoo, but it's so easy to see that as likely spam that I might never have known, and Klaus' stuff could have gone down the drain.

Very kind of you to say so.
What's going on here is, I've sent out a notification to all those who joined the Yahoo group in the past. I assume over the next few days, some of them will be taking a look at the new re-archive.
As Doc & bisontuba seem to have guessed, I was thinking I'd let the dust settle a little before the next level of public announcement, in case anything turns up that needs to be fixed or whatever, but the idea is that it will be a fully public online resource.
Every chunk of time I spend on this, it boggles my mind how much stuff Klaus catalogued here. I suppose it may not quite rival horn-u-copia, but that's a good thing, because there's no database searching or anything, it's just big and "flat." I'm not planning to re-organize it, curate it, add to it or nothing - Klaus did a fine job with it, and I am happy to leave it at that.

Donn, thanks for your yeoman work on preserving Klaus' work!
I'm hoping that I'll finally be able to see and use what I've got to imagine is an extensive and valuable resource (I was never able to access it "back in the day").

Klaus, wherever you are, I hope you will smile down on this and know that this community misses you.
Donn -- thank you. Like everyone else, I was never able to access this while Klaus administered this through Yahoo. Now that I'm in... whoa, that's a lot of stuff. And cool to see my own photos included in the mix.

Will you accept contributions to help defray the hosting/domain costs? I’d be happy to contribute something.
Don
Same here. Please let us know if we can contribute donations or help with organizing\identifying.
Thank you for doing this, if you are ever in Berlin, beer is on me;)

Thanks, the cost is really pretty negligible. I already had the hosting service, from a couple of abandoned projects, and they apparently care nothing about gigabytes of stuff showing up there. I suppose that's one of the things that's in beta test, is whether that hosting will do. If it turns out that it calls for a significant upgrade, maybe we'll be reopening this subject.
It's just a domain name and an empty site. I didn't cost out any of the google drives or dropboxes or photo hosting services, because I hate that stuff, and photobucket has demonstrated the folly of thinking you can rely on them. It's sure a lot different scene than what Klaus had to choose from. I'm not sure when that was, exactly, but it looks like we have stuff from more than 15 years ago.
Your turn will come, though, when like Klaus I become a posthumous memory, but I have no interest in that subject at the moment either. It occurred to him that picking up another old guy for backup was a plan with an obvious flaw, but honestly I imagine what we old guys lack in longevity, we make up for in stability, and the decade or two I might be good for is about the maximum you could expect anyway. At the end of that time, Google will probably have merged with Amazon and they'll have taken the whole web off our hands.

I was never able to see a single one of his pictures, despite numerous invites, passwords, etc.; this, even though I was a Yahoo Group administrator. Looking forward to eventually seeing some of them!
