Practice journaling

Post by Tubameister »

How many of you journal your practice sessions? And what do you write down i it? I’ve been trying to do this lately since my amount of time in the day to practice has been cut to about 1/3 of what it was. I want to make my time as efficient as possible.

When practicing time is tight I plan in advance what to work on and how long, e.g. 10' warm-up, 10' tech basics and 25' working on a piece. This avoids spending too much time on stuff I should really know and helps to concentrate on the important things. Shorter practice time can be very efficient, because you have to be more focussed on playing good. I do not write it down, this would be a time-waste...

I have a practice journal as part of a page I use to plan each day. I write down what I practice, which helps if I’m progressing through a method book, for instance. I think one of the most important parts is the line I label “Intention” on which I write what I want to accomplish that day. This practice helps with focus.
