I do not know of any books for sale with them yet. It seems like the best way is to take all the auditions and save the excerpts you get when you audition and make your own book out of them. Also a good way would be to just have the right teacher who has already made up a good book of band excerpts and see if you can copy theirs.

No mystery. They are compiled by going into music libraries at schools and doing lots of photocopying.

I've seen one USAF euph player with about five or six large binders of euph parts. Not excerpts -- but whole parts.

When I was doing the audition rounds, I had three binders of tuba excerpts ranging from original band stuff to orchestra transcriptions. Was always on the prowl for new music that I heard/played that would have a tuba part that was challenge. You look for stuff that has technique, phrasing, and is melodic.
Granted, you CAN'T have every piece that was writtin for band but by collecting a lot of tuba parts you gain a base. Plus you should be working on those sightreading chops.

What my tuba professor did was made up the Orchestral "A" "B" and "C" lists. It had about 50 excerpts and even the average percentage of when they are called in auditions. It has been a very handy tool.
