My college did not have a marching band. The secret was that the other local college would let you join up, but it was highly discouraged by our professors. Especially my euph teacher, who was solidly against anything other than good, old-fashioned, conservative, by-the-book, stuffy, staid, concert band in which the closest one might ever come to marching was playing JP Sousa. I'm honestly surprised that he was a member of the local BBB, given that our director chose wildly popular stuff to play. Of course, they were close friends, so that might have had something to do with it...
