I recently bought what I believe is a Conn 38k.
However the number "26" is stamped on the bell collar and tenon.
It is currently unplayable.
It has a 24" gold wash bell, flower engraving on the back of the bell.
Weighs 29 lbs
serial number is 224629 so it's a 1925, 26
Why is the "26" stamped there?
Thanks for any assistance.

I have a 38K from 1924 that is stamped "40" in that same location.
What Kiltie said.

It is only a manufacturing index number for that particular factory run of instruments.
